The deceased, Appunraj, had a murder case registered against him at the Vadapalani police station 20 years ago. After his wife separated from him, he had married two other women and has been living with them in the same house. On Sunday, both his wives had an argument with him and left for their maternal houses. Appunraj, who drives an auto rickshaw for livelihood, was dejected by this and consumed liquor. During a fight with his uncle, Veluchamy (82), on Monday evening, Appunraj allegedly tried to hit him with a cricket bat. Infuriated by this, Veluchamy’s son, Raviswaran (54) snatched the bat and attacked Appunraj with it. He sustained severe injuries on the head and died on the spot. The duo was remanded in custody and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
