NEET scam: Govt colleges initiate verification drive

Rattled by the cases of impersonation in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) that have surfaced, including most recently at the prestigious Madras Medical College (MMC), the Directorate of Medical Education has issued a circular to all the government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, directing the authorities to verify the documents of all the second year undergraduate and postgraduate students.

“The circular was issued by the Directorate of Medical Education to initiate the verification of all the documents of the students of second year. Following that, we are now conducting the verification at MMC,” said Dr R Jayanthi, dean of the medical college that is the top medical college in the State.

According to officials from the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), the inquiry of the NEET impersonation case of the second-year student was proceeding.

After the first case of NEET impersonation surfaced at the Government Theni Medical College, the DME had ordered reverification of all documents, including admit cards and scorecards, of the first-year batch of undergraduate and postgraduate students. A similar approach to verify the documents of the second-year students is being done.
