CHENNAI: A young couple, both aged 23 years, were found dead inside their room at a lodge in Periamet on Tuesday. Police suspect it to be a suicide pact.

The deceased were identified as Rithik Kayal and his wife, Dasmira Khatun, both from the central Raipur area of West Bengal.

Rithik was an employee at a restaurant in Tiruvanmiyur and Dasmira was a domestic help in Royapuram, police said. Probe revealed that they were living separately in different parts of the city.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had a fight over their inability to conceive a child. The staff at the lodge alerted the Periamet police after knocks on their door remained unresponsive.

Police broke the door open to find them dead. Their bodies were moved to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for autopsy.
