ED grills DMK MP Kathir Anand for over 9 hours following Vellore college raid

The MP reached the ED office in Nungambakkam around 10.30 am, and the inquiry lasted till late evening. However, the ED did not officially reveal the seizures made during the searches, sources said.

CHENNAI: DMK’s Vellore MP Kathir Anand was questioned for more than 9 hours at the Enforcement Directorate office in Chennai. The grilling happened nearly 2 weeks after the ED sleuths carried out searches in the premises linked to the MP.

The MP reached the ED office in Nungambakkam around 10.30 am, and the inquiry lasted till late evening. However, the ED did not officially reveal the seizures made during the searches, sources said.

According to sources, the MP was summoned to seek an explanation on the incriminating evidence seized in a four-day search, carried out in connection with the seizure of Rs 11.48 crore by the income tax's flying squad in 2019 when the model code of conduct for the then Parliamentary election was in place. The premises of Poonjolai Srinivasan, from whom the cash was seized, were also searched. It may be noted Kathir Anand was not in the country when the searches took place.
