Miscreants hurl liquor bottles at moving EMU train, 3 hurt in Chennai

According to police, the incident happened when the suburban train en route from Tiruvallur towards Chennai had slowed down along the stretch between Vyasarpadi Jeeva and Basinbridge railway stations.

CHENNAI: At least 3 passengers travelling on a suburban train sustained injuries after miscreants hurled empty liquor bottles from the track sidelines into the train near Vyasarpadi Jeeva railway station on Monday morning.

The injured passengers were identified as Anandan (42), Satish Kumar (38) and Palanivel (41) - all residents of Tiruvallur. The police sources said that Satish Kumar suffered a severe head injury, while the other two sustained minor injuries. All three were treated for their injuries at a hospital.

According to police, the incident happened when the suburban train en route from Tiruvallur towards Chennai had slowed down along the stretch between Vyasarpadi Jeeva and Basinbridge railway stations.

The police suspect the miscreants of having consumed liquor along the railway tracks and then hurled the bottles at the passing train. As one of the bottles hit the window grille, the shattered glass pieces struck the passengers sitting by the windows.

Fellow passengers alerted the railway police about the incident. Efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the suspects.
