Minor among 8 arrested for conducting procession in Kancheepuram

A group of BJP supporters, who dressed a 15-year-old boy like Lord Vinayaga and conducted a procession, was arrested by the Kancheepuram police on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, the BJP cadre dressed up the boy and took out a procession through the main thoroughfares in Kancheepuram. A team from Kancheepuram Taluk station team intercepted and dispersed them and registered a case. As the government has already banned processions in view of the coronavirus pandemic, eight of them, including the boy, were detained and taken to a nearby community hall. Earlier, the district administration had sealed a few factories involved in making clay Vinayaga idols of more than three feet.

Meanwhile, Tiruvallur police seized six Vinayaga idols that were being taken for public display. As per the directions by district SP, the Tiruvallur Town police who were keeping a tight vigil seized the idols. The local tahsildar has a filed a complaint.
