CHENNAI: Rural Development Minister and DMK deputy general secretary I Periyasamy was admitted to a private hospital in Madurai on Tuesday following complaints of stomach pain.

According to sources, the minister has been receiving treatment at the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre. He was taken to the hospital after developing a health issue while preparing to attend the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme expansion event scheduled in Chinnalapatti, Dindigul district, on Tuesday.

Party sources, however, maintained that the Minister had gone for a routine medical check-up.

Periyasamy, who represents the Athoor constituency, has held several key portfolios in the past. It may be recalled that the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) recently carried out searches at his premises and those of his relatives.
