CHENNAI: As the tunnelling work for Metro Rail Phase 2 commenced on October 13, the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has proposed to convert at least 15 new Metro stations of phase 2 into transportation hub.

This is only a few weeks after finalising multimodal transportation hub at Guindy and Washermenpet Metro stations.

On September 9, officials from CUMTA, Chennai Corporation, Chennai Metrorail (CMRL) Limited and related departments inspected the areas around Guindy and Washermenpet Metro stations.

"Guindy and Washermenpet transportation hubs are mooted after the construction of the Metro stations. On the other hand, newly proposed 15 hubs will be created at the construction level. This will make the implementation easier as modifications can be done as per requirements," an official said.
