Metro Blue Line, Green Line to run from Sept 7 and 9

Gearing up to restart services that were suspended in the last week of March, the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has issued a set of instructions for passengers to ensure that norms like social distancing were followed.

The service would resume at 8 am on September 7, and would be enhanced in a graded manner. “Initially, train services will be operational from 8 am to 8 pm. The timings will be suitably changed based on the requirement in a gradual manner,” said a statement from CMRL.

The Blue Line (between Airport and Washermenpet) would resume from September 7, while the Green Line (between St Thomas Mount and Central) would start from September 9. There peak hour headway would be five minutes and 10 minutes during non-peak hour. There would be no inter-corridor movement between Central and Airport.

Crowd control and platform management staff would be deployed to maintain social distancing. Train stoppage time at stations has been increased to 50 seconds from 20 seconds to avoid crowding while boarding and de-boarding.

This would be reviewed and changed suitably depending on patronage, the statement added. Alternate seats would be marked with ‘X’ to avoid using them
