Methaqualone worth Rs 2.36 cr seized; Ethiopian national held

Acting on specific inputs, Goytom Aregay Woldemichael, an Ethiopian national who arrived from Addis Ababa was intercepted and 4.729 kg of methaqualone, concealed in his check-in baggage, was recovered and seized and the passenger was arrested.

CHENNAI: Customs officials seized 4.729 kgs of methaqualone worth Rs 2.36 crore from an Ethiopian national at the airport here on Thursday. Acting on specific inputs, Goytom Aregay Woldemichael, an Ethiopian national who arrived from Addis Ababa was intercepted and 4.729 kg of methaqualone, concealed in his check-in baggage, was recovered and seized and the passenger was arrested. In another incident on Wednesday, 894 grams of gold worth Rs 39.13 lakh were seized. The passenger who arrived from Bangkok was intercepted by Air Customs officers who recovered three bundles of gold in paste form concealed in his rectum.
