Man tries to sexually assault 5-year-old boy

Members of the public trashed a 25-year-old man who allegedly tried to misbehave with a 5-year-old boy near Chengalpattu on Tuesday night.

The accused was identified as R Sivaji from Kaavur village in Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district. He was working at a mutton stall in Irunkundrapalli village in Chengalpattu.


The police said that Sivaji noticed the boy was playing near his shop and gave him chocolate. Later he took the boy into the bushes and tried to sexually assault him.


On hearing his cries, the neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued the boy. Though Sivaji tried to run from the spot, he was caught by the public after a chase.


On information, the Chengalpattu Thaluk police admitted Sivaji to Chengalpattu Government Hospital as he suffered injuries in the public attack. Sivaji told the police that he initially approached the child thinking that he was a girl. Police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
