The deceased was identified as Robert (40), a native of Virudhunagar. He used to sleep in footpath in the night and work in construction sites.

Police said that he had borrowed Rs 250 from his friend Sivakumar and returned half of it, but failed to repay the rest. “On Thursday, the duo went to drink at a Tasmac shop in KK Nagar. While consuming alcohol, Sivakumar asked Robert to return the remaining money. As Robert did not pay, the duo got into a fight. In the melee, Sivakumar stabbed Robert with the sharp edge of a beer bottle,” police said. The workers at the bar informed the KK Nagar police about the incident.

A police team rushed to the spot and sent Robert’s body for post-mortem examination. Sivakumar was arrested on charges of murder. Later, he told that Robert had also abused him and his mother. This infuriated him, leading to the stabbing, he told the investigators.
