Man kills wife, stages drama of electrocution in Chennai

He told police that he smothered her using a pillow and decided to show it a case of death due to electrocution. He has been arrested for murder and remanded in judicial custody.

CHENNAI: A 48-year-old man allegedly smothered his second wife to death, using a pillow in a fight that broke out between them over bearing a child at Washermenpet on Thursday night. He later staged a drama claiming that she was electrocuted.

Deceased was identified as Hasina Begam, (37), who was married to the accused Shajahan, of Nainiyappan Garden, 15 years back.

The couple had no children. They usually fought with each other over bearing a child blaming each other. On Thursday night, Shahjahan called up his mother-in-law Sabira Begam, saying that her daughter was electrocuted and was lying unconscious. Sabira Begam, who rushed home informed the Washermenpet police alleging that she suspected foul play in her daughter’s death. Police who reached the house, sent the body for a post mortem to Stanley government hospital. A post mortem report revealed that she was murdered. Police questioned Shahjahan, who confessed to have killed his wife over a fight.
