Man detained under Goondas Act for threatening women

The cybercrime wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), who had arrested a 23-year-old man for threatening women online after befriending them on social media posing as a celebrity, detained him under Goondas Act as a cyber law offender as directed by police Commissioner AK Viswanathan.

The accused, C Vignesh (23), an engineering graduate from Cuddalore, created fake accounts in the name different celebrities on social media and befriended women. Later, he downloaded their photos and started demanding money, threatening to leak their morphed photos if they refused to pay the money as he asked.


Based on a complaint, the CCB sleuths registered a case and arrested Vignesh a few days ago and seized his mobile phone. Vignesh, who was sent to Central Prison in Puzhal, has now been detained under Tamil Nadu Act 14 of 1982 (Goondas).
