Man arrested for attacking woman traffic cop on duty on GST Road

CHENNAI: Police arrested a 46-year-old man who attacked on a woman police traffic constable with stone when she was on duty on the GST Road near Chromepet on Tuesday.

Kumudha (26), the traffic constable in the Chromepet police station was on duty near Sanatorium in the GST Road on Tuesday morning.

Police said a man who was on an intoxicated stage with injury on his hands was disturbing the public when they were waiting at the signal.

Soon Kumudha went and asked the man to move away and was controlling the traffic. After a few minutes, he returned with a stone and attacked her head.

Soon the woman constable started to bleed and fell on the road and was taken to the Chromepet GH in an autorickshaw and was admitted for treatment.

On information, the Chromepet police who visited the spot arrested the attacker Nagaraj of Pallavaram who was loitering on GST Road.

Police found Nagaraj was also injured in his hand and they took him to the Chrompet GH.

Later he was arrested and further inquiry is on.
