CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Monday ordered 29 telecom and internet service provider companies to block and restrain 1,788 websites from telecasting the pirated version of actor Vikram’s upcoming movie Cobra on the internet.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy passed the order on disposing of a petition filed by Seven Screen Studio represented by film producer SS Lalithkumar, who had produced the movie.

The petitioner submitted through his advocate Vijayan Subramaniam that they have spent huge investment on the production cost of the movie and the same will be released on August 31. “The pirated version of the movie should not be allowed to be telecasted on the internet as it would cause huge loss to us,” the petitioner submitted.

He further wanted a direction to 29 government and private internet service providers to block 1,788 websites from telecasting the movie, which amounts to the piracy

Recording the submissions, the judge passed the direction barring anyone from releasing the pirated version of the movie.
