CHENNAI: The Madras High Court adjourned the hearing on the interim bail granted to YouTuber Savukku Shankar to February 9 after the medical board’s report was placed before it.

Shankar was arrested on December 13 last year in connection with cheating cases registered against him by the Adambakkam and Saidapet police. In a habeas corpus petition filed by his mother, A Kamala, seeking his release on medical grounds, the Madras High Court had granted Savukku Shankar interim bail till March 25.

Subsequently, when the petition filed by the Saidapet inspector of police seeking cancellation of the interim bail came up for hearing, the court heard arguments from all sides and reserved orders, which were later pronounced on January 30.

While granting interim bail, the court imposed conditions that Shankar should not make any statement or comment, directly or indirectly, in any manner whatsoever, and should not contact, interact with, or communicate with the co-accused. The court also directed the constitution of a medical board to assess his medical condition and instructed the board to submit its report by February 3.

The case again came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Justices P Velmurugan and M Jothiraman. Additional Public Prosecutor R Muniyapparaj submitted the medical board’s report to the court.

Appearing for Shankar, senior counsel V Raghavachari informed the court that Shankar had appeared before the medical board on the previous day. The bench directed both Shankar’s counsel and the Additional Public Prosecutor to go through the medical report and make their submissions. The matter was then adjourned to February 9.
