Lawyer steals document from sub-registrar office, arrested

An advocate, who allegedly stole a document from Pallavaram sub-registrar office, was arrested on Tuesday.

The arrested was identified as Meenakshi Sundaram (38) from Royapettah. He had already filed an RTI for information on documents at the Pallavaram sub-registrar office. On Tuesday morning, Meenakshi Sundaram and his friend went to the office in Chromepet. The staff there gave him the documents, for which he had filed the RTI. As he was not allowed to take the documents with him but check it at the office itself, Meenakshi Sundaram took one of the documents and passed it to his friend. The friend ran with the document and escaped on a two-wheeler which was parked outside. Meenakshi Sundaram also tried to escape from the spot but he was caught by the staff and the public in the office. On information, the Chromepet police arrived at the spot and held an inquiry with the advocate. He was later arrested on charges of stealing the document and remanded in judicial custody. The police have launched a hunt for the man who escaped with the document.
