CHENNAI: A day after a 23-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death inside Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, City Police Commission A Arun suspended four constables and issued memos to the jurisdictional Assistant Commissioner and inspector.

Constables Narenthiran, Saritha, Ambika, and Neelavathi, who were responsible for security at the hospital, were suspended, while memos were issued to Assistant Commissioner Durai and Kilpauk crime wing inspector Srinivasan for supervisory failures. Both were asked to submit detailed explanations.

The disciplinary action follows the murder of Adhi alias Adhi Kesavan, a ‘B’ category history-sheeter from Kolathur with seven prior criminal cases. A gang of people, concealing their faces with helmets, attacked him with sickles when Adhi was sleeping on the floor near the maternity ward.

Investigation revealed that it was a revenge attack by the associates of Palani, whom he had murdered in 2022.

The gang reportedly planned the attack after Adhi was released from prison on January 1. Eight suspects have been arrested in the case, including Ashi’s girlfriend Suchitra. She was admitted to the hospital and he had come to meet her.
