CHENNAI: Setting an example, a group of children from Iyyappanthangal took part in the Grama Sabha meeting that was held on Monday and submitted a petition requesting that officials re-lay a 13-year-old concrete road in their area.
In the petition, the children noted that the 4th Main Road in VGN Nagar, Iyyappanthangal, was in a poor condition. The concrete road, originally laid in 2013, is now filled with bumps and potholes because the concrete layer has eroded at several spots. The situation takes a turn for the worse when it rains, they said.
Due to the road's poor condition, children are unable to play, cycle, or even walk safely, the complaint said. Because the local parks are also in bad condition, they have nowhere else to play, they said.
While the village panchayat has re-laid almost 95 per cent of the roads in the village, this street has been left unattended for years. About 15 children marched from the street to the Grama Sabha carrying placards and presented their petition to the president. Iyyappanthangal village president assured that the road would be re-laid soon.
