Karnataka man arrested for knifepoint robbery in Chennai

The arrested person, J Mohammed Khan (46) of Kolar has been involved in a series of such robberies and waylaying incidents in all the southern states, police said.

CHENNAI: City police on Sunday arrested a 46-year-old man from Karnataka for alleged knifepoint robbery from a man, who runs a roadside eatery in Royapuram.

The arrested person, J Mohammed Khan (46) of Kolar has been involved in a series of such robberies and waylaying incidents in all the southern states, police said.

The accused, a native of Kolar has been in the city for the past one year and is suspected to be involved in other theft incidents in Chennai and surrounding districts.

On Sunday morning, K Ismali of West Mada Koil street in Royapuram was making preparations to set up his roadside Biryani stall when the accused walked up to him and threatened him with a knife.

He escaped with Rs 500 cash which he took from the eatery owner. Based on Ismail’s complaint, Police arrested Mohammed Khan. Police recovered knife, screwdrivers, crowbar and other weapons from him.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody
