CHENNAI: Traffic was hit on RK Salai on Thursday from 10.30 am to 11 am after members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) protested near the DGP office demanding police to expedite trial in the Kallakuruchi case and slap sections of the POCSO Act on the suspects.

They also wanted the cops to move court for cancelling bail granted to the suspects. They demanded that the State government provide adequate relief to the student’s kin and a government job to a family member. Police evacuated the protesters and detained around 250 of them in a marriage hall in Mylapore.

The police let them off in the evening. A case was registered for staging a flash protest blocking the road and preventing traffic movements. Around 100 protesters gathered near Kalyani Hospital and marched towards the DGP office. Police stopped them near Citi Centre mall. Another group was stopped near Kannagi Statue and a few more agitators were detained at Light House.
