Juvenile among three nabbed for snatching phones

A bike-borne trio, who targeted pedestrians on East Coast Road and Rajiv Gandhi Salai and snatched phones, was arrested. As many as 14 mobile phones were seized from them.

Of the three accused, one was a 15-year-old boy. The others were identified as A Vijay (19) of Semmanchery and A Suriya (18) of Besant Nagar. They were secured by a special team of Adyar Deputy Commissioner Pakalavan.


On January 28, Sridhar, an employee of a software firm on OMR, was walking back home when the trio followed him on a bike and snatched his phone around 1 am.


Based on his complaint, the Tiruvanmiyur police registered a case. CCTV footages retrieved from the area revealed the registration number of the bike and Vijay was secured. Based on his inputs, the others were also secured.


As many as 14 smartphones of various brands, including the iPhone snatched from Sridhar and the bike used for the offence, were also seized from them. The police said that there are no previous cases against them.


While the duo was sent to the prison after being produced before the magistrate, the juvenile was sent to the observation home.
