Infant found abandoned in cemetery

The police rescued a newborn abandoned in a cemetery near Maduranthagam on Wednesday. The guard at the Maduranthagam municipal cemetery heard the infant’s cries and found the girl. He informed the municipal officials and the police immediately. 

Meanwhile, villagers gathered at the spot and some of the women came forward to adopt the baby but the Maduranthagam police took her to Maduranthagam government hospital. 

The police said the baby is healthy and is only three days old. She will be under observation in the hospital for the next few days. After that, the infant will be taken to a government home. The Maduranthagam police have also registered a case and are investigating who left the baby in the cemetery.
