An initiative of Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, the move has been widely welcomed by the police department personnel.

The personnel will be given a holiday on their respective birthdays and will also receive a greeting card signed by the Commissioner. In another first, the Department also celebrated the birthday of a cop a couple of days ago.

As per the new rule, the police personnel would be invited to the office of Deputy Commissioner or the Assistant Commissioner and given the greeting card and would also cut a cake together. Sources believe that this initiative will help in forging bonds between officials of various hierarchies.

As per earlier tradition, the list of those celebrating birthdays would be announced over mic at 8 am and the announcer would always convey wishes from the City Police Commissioner and the day would pass without the policemen taking any leaves.
