IIT-JEE Advanced 2016 results out, Chennai boy secures 73rd rank

The anxious wait for IIT aspirants ended with the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, the organising IIT for the Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced) 2016, announcing the results on Sunday.

While Aman Bansal from Jaipur secured the first rank, Bhavesh Dhingra from Yamuna Nagar ranked second and Kunal Goyal, also from Jaipur bagged the third position in the test. R. Raghul, a student of PSBB Millennium School in Chennai secured All India 73rd rank with a score of 253 out of 372.

Raghul says that he would prefer to study Computer Science Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. 

“I want to become a software engineer as it has been my area of interest for a long time. I will join computer science engineering as I think it has lot of scope. My father Rajasekar, a software professional, and my mother motivated me a lot,” he said, adding that he prepared well for JEE (advanced) by strengthening basic concepts in subjects. R. Rajan, student mentor at FIITJEE regional office, Chennai, pointed out that the awareness level among Tamil Nadu students for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) had seen an increase in the recent past. 

“Response from parents for JEE is also good as more students are enrolling for competitive exams,” he said. A total of 6,702 students qualified from the IIT, Madras zone, of which 5 were in the top 10 ranks, 30 in top 100 and 131 students in top 500.

IIT Madras zone consists of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Telangana and some parts of Andhra Pradesh. According to JEE (advanced) office at IIT, Madras, over 4,000 students had registered to take the test in exam centres in Tamil Nadu. 

Of the 1.47 lakh students who appeared for the exam across the country, 36,566 aspirants qualified in the examination. The total number of seats available in 23 IITs is 10,575.
