CHENNAI: Students of IIT Madras staged a sit-in protest inside the campus on Wednesday demanding the management to take action against the concerned staff in connection with the death of a PhD scholar Sachin Kumar Jain (31), who died by suicide at his residence in Velachery two weeks ago. Students demanded the management form a committee to probe into the suicidal deaths of the students.

They also demanded an assurance that the inquiry will be unbiased and those willing to appear before inquiry committee will be protected.

They also demanded suspension of Kumar’s PhD guide, sources said. Kumar from West Bengal lived in rented accommodation in Velachery along with two others. He was found dead on March 31 in his room.
