IIT- M student kills self in campus

Police noted that the student had a backlog of 4 arrear papers and could have decided to taken the extreme step because of frustration.

CHENNAI: A fourth year B tech Aerospace Engineering student at IIT –Madras died by suicide on Thursday in his hostel room in the campus. Police said the victim, Subhranshu Shekar Dehury, a native of Odisha, staying in room number 329, Tapti hostel, killed himself.

Police noted that the student had a backlog of 4 arrear papers and could have decided to taken the extreme step because of frustration. In a statement, IIT-M said the Institute expressed its heartfelt condolences and shares the grief of the friends and family of the student.

“It is with deep shock and anguish that IIT-Madras conveys the tragic and untimely passing away of a fourth year undergraduate student of Aerospace Engineering department, this evening. The parents of the student have been informed and they are on their way to Chennai. We request everyone to respect the privacy of the family at this unfortunate moment, ” the note from IIT-M said.
