Acting on a tip-off, Periayapalayam inspector R Maheshwari and her team raided the room next to the bar on Saturday morning and found 4,300 liquor bottles worth Rs 7 lakh stocked. Police suspect that the bar owner might have stocked up the liquor just before the stringent lockdown came into effect on June 19 to sell it to the public at a higher price. Investigation is on to ascertain if the bottles were smuggled from Andhra Pradesh. While a limited number of Tasmac shops has been allowed to open in Tiruvallur district, the seizure of huge stock right next to the Chennai police limits has shocked the men in khaki.

In another incident, Sholavaram police have arrested three men in possession of 2 kg ganja and seized a two-wheeler from them. The accused were identified as Manikandan (21) and Sathishkumar (21) of Villivakkam and Ponraj (20) of Avadi.

The trio was secured near Attanthangal flyover during a vehicle check and investigation revealed that the gang bought ganja in Andhra Pradesh and smuggled it into Chennai.
