CHENNAI: Police have launched a search hunt for a conman who conducted searches at the residence of an official with CMDA in Koyambedu by claiming to be a vigilance department official on Friday.

Police sources said that no documents or property was ‘seized’ by the conman, but investigations are under way to find if he is part of a gang targeting government officials.

According to police sources, the conman had called the assistant of an engineer with the CMDA and claimed to be an Inspector with DVAC.

When the engineer allowed the conman to search his office, he told him that a team is waiting at his residence and asked him to take him to his office.

However, there was no one there and despite this, the conman conducted searches alone and got himself dropped at Koyambedu in the engineer’s car.

After making calls to DVAC, the engineer found that no such search was authorised by the department after which he realised that he was conned and filed a police complaint.
