Hoax terror alert keeps cops on toes in Kodungaiyur

Police have initiated efforts to trace the caller. Following the false alarm, the Kodungaiyur police lodged a formal complaint.

CHENNAI: The city police personnel were kept on their toes on Friday night after a hoax caller made a false alarm claiming that a terror suspect was holed up in Kodungaiyur. Police declared the alarm as a hoax after searches at the location mentioned in the hoax call.

After the police control room received the call, police units including the local law enforcement, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were pressed into service. After searching the locations mentioned by the caller, the call was declared a hoax.

Police have initiated efforts to trace the caller. Following the false alarm, the Kodungaiyur police lodged a formal complaint. The case was taken over by the Cyber Crime Wing, which launched an investigation to identify the caller. Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against those misusing emergency services and causing panic.
