High on ganja, bikers hit cop near Kellys

A traffic inspector was injured when he tried to stop two youngsters on a speeding bike, who were allegedly under the influence of ganja, near on Monday evening.

The duo was identified as R Vijay (23) of Kolathur, a second-year college student, and S Jayakumar alias Anbu (20) of Villivakkam. The traffic enforcement wing personnel of ICF police station who were checking vehicles at Purasaiwalkam, received information on walkie-talkie that two youth on a bike were speeding towards Purasaiwalkam.

Spotting them, Traffic Enforcement inspector Kumaran tried to stop the vehicle. But the bike hit him, leaving him with injuries on his face and legs. The duo too lost balance and fell off, suffering injuries.

However, other personnel secured the riders, who were reportedly under the influence of ganja. The cop and the riders were taken to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment, after which the offenders were handed over to Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation police.
