CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Tuesday adjourned a petition filed by an AIADMK man seeking directions to declare the decisions made in the July 11th General Council meeting of AIADMK.

Heading the first bench along with Justice D Krishnakumar, Acting Chief Justice T Raja passed the directions on hearing a petition filed by S Suriya Moorthy, a resident of Kalathuppatti village in Dindigul district.

The petitioner submitted that the way in which the General Council meeting was conducted by its interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) is against the bye-laws framed by the party founder MG Ramachandran.

The petitioner submitted that the bye-laws of AIADMK were changed in September 2017 and dual leadership came into place. However, defying the new bye-laws, EPS and his men had invited the meeting without the consultation of the party coordinator O Panneerselvam.

He further prayed for a direction to restrain EPS from functioning as the interim general secretary. The petitioner requested the bench to direct the Election Commission of India not to recognise the resolutions passed in the July 11 GC meeting till the disposal of his petition. Suriya Moorthy who appeared in person claimed that he did not know English and sought a month's time to read the Tamil translations of the earlier orders of the HC and SC in this connection.

However, the judges rejected his plea and adjourned the matter for two weeks.
