The incident happened in Sowcarpet and police sources said that the girl, in her 20s, befriended one Dinesh from Ahmedabad through Facebook. It is said that Dinesh posed as a 20-year-old man, developed a relationship and received photos of her.

However, he recently started demanding Rs 2 lakh from her and threatened to release her morphed photographs if she does not pay up. After the girl informed her parents about the threat, a complaint was lodged at the Elephant Gate police station.

Under their instruction, the girl asked Dinesh to come to Chennai to receive the money. Dinesh, who came with his friend to Chennai, sent the latter to get money from the girl. Her family secured the man and handed him over to the police.

Investigation revealed that the friend was not part of the cheating and was let off while the accused escaped. A senior official said that a team has gone to Ahmedabad to nab him.
