CHENNAI: A writ petition has been filed before the Madras High Court by A Kamala, the mother of YouTuber Savukku Shankar, seeking urgent medical treatment for her son and temporary bail on health grounds.

Savukku Shankar is under incarceration on extortion charges, based on a complaint lodged at the Adambakkam Police Station in Chennai for threatening film producer Ayesha Sadiq.

In another complaint, Harichandran approached the Saidapet Police Station, alleging that Shankar threatened the owner of a newly opened liquor bar in the Nandanam area of Chennai and forced him to pay Rs 94,000 through GPay. Based on these complaints, Savukku Shankar was arrested and remanded to judicial custody, following which he was lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.

In the petition, A Kamala has alleged that despite her son's existing medical conditions, he is not being provided with adequate medical care in prison. She further stated that, except for a discharge summary, no detailed medical records are available, making it difficult for specialist doctors to assess his condition properly.

Along with the writ petition, a plea seeking temporary bail has also been filed to enable Shankar to undergo comprehensive medical examinations outside the prison system. The petitioner contended that his blood pressure remains high despite prescribed medication and warned that any further delay in proper treatment could seriously aggravate his health condition.

The petition also alleged that the authorities' actions amount to custodial harassment and that they have failed to safeguard Shankar's fundamental right to health.

The matter is scheduled to come up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Justices SM Subramaniam and P Dhanabal on Friday.
