Govt staffer arrested for attacking cops

A government employee was arrested by the Triplicane police for allegedly assaulting policemen on Thursday night.

The police said Navarasan, a junior engineer from the Department of Geology and Mining, picked up a quarrel with Armed Reserve personnel Shanmugam and Rajesh after hitting them with his two-wheeler on Ellis Road in Triplicane.He then left the spot but returned with 10 men and attacked the personnel. The Triplicane police reached the spot and nabbed him while the others escaped. Navarasan was drunk, officials said. He was arrested for drunk driving and assault, and was remanded in judicial custody.
