CHENNAI: The Madras HC on Friday directed the National Medical Commission to revisit its memorandum insisting to the deemed medical universities and self-financing medical institutions collect fees on par with the government colleges for 50 per cent of seats.
The first bench of Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice N Mala passed the orders on disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by several private deemed medical universities and medical colleges.
The judges passed the orders because several issues would occur while implementing the memorandum. The bench noted that the other 50 per cent of seats will go unfilled due to the exorbitant fees.
The private colleges informed the judges that if they were forced to collect the fees which are being collected by the government colleges, they will be in a position to collect more fees in self-financing quota.
