Gold worth Rs 40L seized from duo on Dubai flight

Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 40 lakh and arrested a passenger on Wednesday.

 On Wednesday night, one Abdul Rahman Khan (36) of Chennai, who arrived from Dubai, was intercepted at the exit of the Customs arrival hall. On questioning, he confessed to concealing three bundles of gold paste in his rectum. A total of 416 grams of gold, valued at Rs 21.8 lakh, was seized and Khan was arrested.

 Officers also recovered gold plates and coins from another person who came on the same flight. He was identified as Avinash (28), a network engineer of a private firm looking after the maintenance of CCTV cameras at the airport. Another passenger, Mohammad Ghouse (26), who passed it on to him for delivering to someone outside the airport was also apprehended and gold valued at Rs 18.21 lakh was recovered.
