Gold worth Rs 1.3 crore seized at Chennai Airport; two passengers held for smuggling

CHENNAI: Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 1.3 crores in Chennai airport. The officials were checking the passengers who arrived from Dubai on Saturday.

On suspicion, they intercepted a male passenger who visited Dubai on a tourist visa. The passenger was evasive in his replies and during the personal search, they found he had hidden gold in paste form inside his clothes.

They recovered gold weighing about one kg and arrested him. In another incident, the customs recovered gold bars that a passenger from Thailand kept hidden inside his baggage and arrested him. In total, 1,427 grams of gold worth Rs 1.3 crore were seized.
