Gold worth Rs 1.65 crore foundin aircraft toilet, probe on

CHENNAI: As many as 32 gold bars that were hidden inside the water tank in the toilet of an aircraft were seized by the Customs officials at the Chennai airport on Friday.

Officials said the value of the seized gold was estimated to be Rs 1.65 crore.

The gold was found in an Indigo Airlines flight that arrived from Dubai early on Friday morning. When the staff were cleaning the aircraft before it departed to Delhi, they noticed a package hidden inside the water tank in the toilet and informed the manager.

Soon, security and Customs officials came there and checked the package using a metal detector.

Later when they opened it, officials found 32 gold bars weighing about 3.7 kg.

After seizing the smuggled gold, officials are now trying to identify the person who placed it there.
