Gang which stole phones from bus passengers arrested

CHENNAI: City Police have busted a phone stealing gang which targeted passengers in MTC bus. Four persons have been arrested and 22 phones have been recovered from them.

T Rajadurai (22), a college student, residing at Moore street in Mannadi had filed a complaint with the North beach police station stating that his mobile phone got stolen while he was returning home in a MTC bus after college. The incident happened on Wednesday (Sep 14).

After investigations, a police team arrested four persons- M Balu (33), V Sathya (26), A Syed (38) and R Marudhupandi (55).

Police said that Balu is a history sheeter with several cases pending against him in Washermanpet police station. Balu along with Sathya targeted passengers in MTC bus and pedestrians on secluded stretches and robbed their mobile phones. They then gave the phones to Syed, a middleman who sells it to Marudhupandi, police said.

All four of them were produced before aa magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
