Selvakumar (22) of Virugambakkam has been in a relationship with a girl in the neighbourhood for more than three years. As her parents opposed their relationship, he took her to a friend’s house to get married.

The girl’s parents sought the help of a relative, a political functionary, to rescue her. The politician and his men first secured Selvakumar’s brothers and friends to find out the couple’s whereabouts and reached the house where they were hiding. The gang sent the girl in a car to her house and allegedly took Selvakumar and his friends to their office at gunpoint. They were made to sign the blank papers and were thrashed before being let off on Wednesday night.

Selvakumar and his friends Nagaraj (20), Udhaya (18) and Sakthivel (18) managed to reach Government Kilpauk MCH on an ambulance and got treated for injuries.
