Gang of ganja peddlers held in Tondiarpet

A seven-member gang of ganja peddlers was nabbed in possession of weapons in Tondiarpet on Tuesday. On a tip-off that the group of men was threatening passers-by with weapons near Vaidyanathan flyover in Tondiarpet on Monday night, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot and rounded them up.

Interrogation revealed that they smuggle ganja in huge quantity from Andhra Pradesh and sell it in the locality. Two machetes and one kg of ganja were seized from them before they were remanded in judicial custody. They were identified as Santhosh, Bhaskar, Suresh, Nagaraj, Saravanan, Vicky and Sridhar. Meanwhile, the Ennore police arrested another peddler and seized 1.2 kg ganja. The accused, Hussain alias Ahmed (23), was caught red-handed.
