Gang of 4 robs cellphone, cash from techie

A 35-year-old techie was robbed while he was cycling back home on Friday morning in Choolaimedu.

The police identified the victim as S Rakesh Nair, a native of Kerala. He was working as a manager at an IT company in Nungambakkam. On Friday, at 4 am, Rakesh was cycling back to his residence in Choolaimedu when a gang of four blocked his way, threatened and asked him to hand over cash and mobile phone. When Rakesh refused, the gang assaulted him and snatched his phone before escaping from the spot. The Nungambakkam police registered a case.


In another incident, N Krishnamoorthy (37) from Manali, who is a cab driver, was waiting near Villivakkam bus stop when two men attacked him and escaped with his mobile phone worth Rs 20,000. The Villivakkam police are probing the incident. In another case of chain snatching, a 45-year-old woman identified as G Jayanthi, a resident of Kanniappan Nagar in Thiruninravur, was relieved of her gold chain when she was walking back home from a supermarket on Thursday night. Two bike-borne men wearing helmets snatched her chain and sped away.
