Gang abandons bike after snatching bid near Boat Club

A bike-borne trio who snatched a pedestrian’s mobile phone at Teynampet on Friday night abandoned the vehicle and escaped when the victim chased them with the help of a passer-by on a two-wheeler.

The victim, P Pandian (19) of Cenatoph Road, was walking home around 10.30 pm. When he was near Boat Club area, three men on a bike snatched his phone and tried to flee from the spot. However, a passer-by noticed the incident and offered to help the victim to chase them. The two chased the snatchers on Mowbrays road up to Samco Hotel, after which the trio abandoned the vehicle and escaped with the mobile phone.

After the victim alerted the control room, a patrol team seized the two-wheeler and took it to Teynampet police station. Based on his complaint, the Abiramapuram police registered a case and are searching for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. Meanwhile, the Madhavaram Milk Colony police arrested three persons, including a juvenile, in connection with a snatching case. Among the accused, S Harishkumar (19) and K Sathishkumar (21) have murder attempt cases pending against them. Along with a juvenile, they had allegedly snatched a woman’s chain at Manjambakkam . The police arrested the trio and sent the juvenile to an observation home.
