Four held for ganja peddling

The Taramani police have nabbed a four-member gang, a college student and three men from Tripura, for peddling ganja on Thursday.

Police said that sub-inspector S Ilamvazhuthi and head constable B Karunakaran intercepted a youth on suspicion near the MRTS railway station during night patrol on Thursday. While examination, they found ganja sachets in his possession and took him to the police station. He was identified as N Ajithkumar (19) of Periyar Nagar in Taramani, a first-year college student.

During further interrogation, police found out that three men from Tripura, who have rented the first-floor of Ajith’s house, have been smuggling ganja from Assam by train. The three men were also selling the contraband to college students in the city with the help of Ajithkumar.

Based on the information, the police immediately raided their house, arrested the three men and seized 10.2 kg ganja. They were identified as M Sameer Hussan (28) who works at a biriyani shop, I Shadiq Mia (20) who works at restaurant and A Noorlam Mia (32). A hunt has been launched for Anyur Hussain (32) from Tripura who was also a part of the gang.
