Four arrested for attacking woman cop in Chennai

CHENNAI: The city police arrested four people, including a history sheeter, for attacking a woman traffic cop who intercepted them near Dr Radhakrishnan Salai on Monday night.

Nandhini (28), a woman constable attached to Royapettah traffic enforcement wing, was on duty near Jambulingam Street when she noticed the four men riding a bike and stopped them. Two of them were in an inebriated state.

They picked up an argument with her and within moments, one of them grabbed her hand and pushed her to the ground. They threatened onlookers who tried to intervene and fled the scene. However, a retired sub-inspector chased them on his two-wheeler and alerted the police control room, after which a police team secured the four men within hours.

The arrested persons were identified as Jeeva (28), a 'C' category rowdy, and his associates Perumal (28), Premkumar (30) and Srinivasan (30). They were remanded in judicial custody.
