Five deemed Tamil Nadu universities in world top rankings

Five deemed universities from Tamil Nadu — VIT University, SASTRA University, Sathyabama University, SRM University and Amrita University have secured 801 plus ranks in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has been ranked between 401 to 500 rank.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017 lists the 980 top universities in the world. It judges world class universities across all of their core missions — teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. University of Oxford has been ranked number one, followed by California Institute of Technology and Stanford University. 

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore leads the Indian list and is ranked between 201-250 rank. Commenting about the world ranking, Dr S Vaidhyasubramaniam, Dean (Planning & Development) at SASTRA University said, “Our future efforts will concentrate on patents and internationalisation besides consistently improving other parameters,” he said.
