Fire breaks out at commercial complex in Sowcarpet

According to police sources, there is a bridal studio, a couple of boutiques, and imitation jewellery showrooms in the Ratan Raj Square complex on Mint Street, where the fire broke out, early in the morning.

CHENNAI: Fire broke out at a commercial complex in Sowcarpet on Monday morning, gutting several showrooms and godowns housed in the complex. No person was injured in the accident, police said.

According to police sources, there is a bridal studio, a couple of boutiques, and imitation jewellery showrooms in the Ratan Raj Square complex on Mint Street, where the fire broke out, early in the morning.

Morning walkers who noticed the blazing flames alerted the fire department personnel after which fire tenders from High Court and Esplanade fire stations rushed to the spot and they put down the fire after an ordeal which lasted over an hour battling for about an hour.

TNFRS (Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services) personnel noted that there was no person trapped as the fire accident happened in the morning.

Elephant Gate Police have registered a case and are investigating. Preliminary inquiries have suggested that fire sparks from a transformer nearby might have caused the fire accident. Further investigations are on.
