Within a few minutes, the room caught fire and it spread to the whole building. Fire and Rescue Service team from Maraimalai Nagar rushed to the spot and tried to douse the fire. But as there were many plastic and leather goods in the building, they had to bring three fire engines from Chengalpattu and Tambaram. The fire was brought under control after three hours of firefighting. The police said that goods worth several lakhs were gutted in the fire. A few of the finished products in the storeroom were secured and shifted to another place. Police have registered a case and inquiry is on.
